On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding commemoration. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s shrewd and excellent spouse vanishes. Under mounting weight from the police and the media—and also Amy’s savagely gushing guardians—the town brilliant kid parades an unending arrangement of untruths, duplicities, and unseemly conduct.
